VisualGraphics
Freelance Web Design
2006– Present
Mukilteo, WA
www.visual-g.com |
At
VisualGraphics, I am working in conjuction with a graphic
artist
to design high-end, visually stimulating and highly functional
websites for mid-sized companies. Over the past year and a
half, I have built over 12 complete websites from the ground
up, and redesigned several more. I also maintain a number
of VisualGraphics websites. |
Ability Multimedia
Owner
2003 – Present
Seattle, WA |
I founded Ability Multimedia with the purpose of providing
web design for small businesses. In this endeavor, I have
designed
logos, built complex sites, integrated ecommerce capabilities
and developed marketing content for my clients. Over the
last
three years, I have learned much about running a business,
such as marketing strategies, using resources and the needs
of my
customers. |
Half
Price Books
Book Buyer
2004 – 2006
Redmond, WA
|
In
addition to my efforts building Ability Multimedia, I have
been
employed at Half Price Books as a book buyer. This position
required that I develop a rapport with the customer, evaluate
their used books individually, pitch a offer and then explain
in clear and concise terms (but without breaking down the
buy
book by book) how evaluation of their books affects their total
offer. Being a book buyer requires an intuition of trends
and
a sharp knowledge of all subjects. My experience in this job
has become relevant to my professional life, in that it
allowed
me to explain complex and detailed information to lay persons
without using technical jargon.

I/O
Com
Web Designer
2004
Woodinville, WA
|
In
my time at I/O Com, I was responsible for doing updates to existing
automotive websites, such as changing text, formatting, and
changing or altering product images for the web. Often I would
spend large portions of my day cropping images to the correct
proportions and removing blemishes in Adobe Photoshop.

Copy
Source
Print Clerk
2003 – 2004
Bellingham, WA
|
My
duties at Copy Source ranged from print product finishing (i.e.
folding and binding) to printing custom art files. As the “computer
guy” in the evening, I would be the one who would handle
the printing needs of customers who came in after the graphic
designer had left. This ranged from answering questions about
printing requirements to adjusting colors (via Photoshop or
Illustrator) or modifying the file format. In this job, I learned
much about both digital and off-set printing, which I have found
immensely useful in the graphic design which I do for my own
business.

Center
for Instructional Innovation
Web Designer
1999 – 2002
Bellingham, WA
|
CII
was my first professional web design job, and this is where
I learned all the intermediate tricks and tips that separate
novice web designers from professionals. I learned the advantages
and disadvantages of WYSIWYG editors, learned how to effectively
use Photoshop, and the “how to” organization of
a web project. Additionally, I learned much about the standards
which are used for web design, and learned how to develop websites
in a team environment. |
